I have a new lesson for you! For some reason, the photos didn’t move from the google doc to this screen, so I’ve put them in the slide show. They’re also in the email. ​ I went for a run at Saugatuck Dunes the other day, and I was thinking about how much fun we had last year! There were so many fascinating things to observe. I took some pictures to share with you, and used them to inspire this lesson. Have fun, and get outside!! :) These two trees… To me, they seem like they are talking to one another. Are they having an argument, or reaching toward each other? Maybe dancing? Try it! Write a poem or story telling the story of the trees Take a photo or make a drawing of your own showing two things in nature also interacting. Tell their story! This is a White Pine tree. Do you remember what kind of tree it is? Evergreen!! It has long, soft, flexible needles. I’m trying to show you in the picture that the needles come in little bundles of 5 needles. Do you have any white pine trees at home? Math 5 is a pretty fun number! Can you write some math problems about a white pine? If you can find a little branch of needles, can you count how many needles by counting by 5s? Decomposers Do you remember what decomposers are? They help recycle nutrients into soil when something dies. Get outside! How many different decomposers can you find? Make a sketch of each one Describe one with as much detail as you can- LOTS of adjectives! Make a graph of the numbers of types of decomposers you found Write some story problems with your data! Can your Mom and Dad answer them? You check their work. :) Can you use a computer or a field guide to identify any of them? Try observing them with our observation questions: What does it look like? What else does it remind me of? Why might it be like that?
